How long does it take to make a website?
It really depends on what you need. A simple, one page, website may only take an hour. A more elaborate website, like an ecommerce site, can take many hours and weeks or adjustments/changes. Also, if you have a lot of product content that you need to to upload, this can take some time.

Can I come to you and meet in person?
Of course! I would be happy to arrange a time for you to come and see me. Consultation visits to me are free of charge. If you would like me to come to you, I charge my minutely rate for the time plus travel. You can find my address on the contact page to see how far away I am.

What is the difference between website design and development?
Design is the appearance of the website, mainly the layout, colours and appearance images (like buttons or backgrounds). When supplied by a design or marketing agency this is normally supplied as a layed image.
Development is the code of the website and also includes adding the initial content. The code is what determines where everything is placed, the size of it and how it functions.

What is a domain and what should I look for when choosing one?
A domain name is the URL or address of a website (i.e. www.jadeh.com).
When choosing a domain name you want to think about 3 key things.
   1. Make sure it's relavent to your website. Example for a gardening website:
       BAD:www.turtleplace.com GOOD:www.turtlegardens.com
   2. Don't make the domain too long or difficult to spell (i.e. www.thisisthestoreextravaganza.co.uk).
   3. Try to refrain from using dashes or numbers (i.e. www.my-website22.com), this can make it difficult to tell someone your website or email address over the phone or in person.

Do I need to have a business or sell something in order to have a website?
Nope, anyone can have a website for any reason. A lot of websites are made for sharing their hobbies, charity or just a way to keep in touch with friends and family.

What information should I have on my website?
It depends on what your website is for.
If you're a business it's good to have contact information for your clients or customer and as much information about your business that you want to publicly share, i.e. what your business is, how much things cost, who works at your business, who you've done business for...
If this is a personal website, then you need to consider that everything you put on the internet stays on the internet! Even if you delete it from your website, everything is archived and stored forever. I reccomend not putting any contact details, except for a contact form, on your website. This will prevent direct targeting from phishers or scammers.

What do you use to make the websites?
I use a number of coding languages along with many different designing programs. When I create website I code them in ASP.NET VB with XHTML, CSS and Javascript. When making ecommerce websites I use nopCommerce. I can code an online store, however by using an open-source package like nop it keeps the costs down and provides a vast amount of abilities that would take months to code.

Can I have a blog or forum on my website?
Of course! Either I can build one for you or an opensource platform can be incorporated in to your website.

Can you develop my website from a design I already have?
That's not a problem. What I would need would be the following:
   1. High quality layered image.
   2. Folder containing any images, logos and/or fonts (if not a windows font) to be used on the website.
   3. Document with the colours (HEX codes preffered) if they can't be extracted from the image file.

Can I make changes to my website myself, or do I need to get you to do it?
If you wish to make changes to your own website I will need to know this during the consultation, as a content management system will need to be coded in to the site. If I'm building your site in nopCommerce then you will have full access to all of the admin system and content management.

How do I request a change?

When I make a change request, how long does it take before it's done?
Depending on the difficulty of the change they can take between 24 hours and 2 weeks. For simple content changes, like text or colours, I can have them done within hours of the request. If the change is advance, like adding a new page or function, this can take a few days to make time for. If you need a certain change to be done at a certain time (i.e. notice of an event) I reccomend that the request it placed 1 week in advance.

If you make my website, can I have another company host and manage it for me?
Unlike more website companies, when I create a website it becomes your property. You have full rights to the code and can do whatever you like with it.
